I think people forget that the internet is a public access road. You might as well take all your information and stand on an overpass in a major metropolitan area and scatter the scraps of your security to the sky. This is the problem with networking sites. There are an element of people who cannot keep reality separate from facsimiles. They fall in love with words and repudiate factual flesh for their fantasies. Their persona is as fictitious as their sanity. So. If someone wants anonymity, it should be honored.
That said – although I have nothing to hide and could not be more open, I regret using my name. Too many people have lost their ability to reason and be reasonable. I have people who read me and lose all sense of proportion. So I had to change my Facebook privacy settings and remove all exact references to my physical location from my blog. Some people refuse to maintain decorum and distance. It’s something that must be considered. Some people have issues with boundaries. But, that’s not an online issue – that’s a societal statement.
